It may sound a little off the wall (no pun intended) but this simple interior design trick make your wall look entirely different. What to consider before pasting wallpaper horizontally

1. PATTERN AND COLOURS
Not all wallpapers are suited for horizontal installation. Generally, try to avoid putting glitter, metal, shiny wallpapers horizontally as it can create an unpleasant effect that’s not pleasing to the eye.
Take for example, one of our gorgeous looking metallic wallpapers…

The effect is out of place, as horizontal designs are meant to give you a sense of stability, and vertical ones don’t. You also get the wrong lighting and tones at the wrong place.
For some wallpapers with strong designs like Mindthegap, it is also not recommended to install horizontally as it really long.
NLXL wallpapers are extremely suited on the other hand, as they have seamless designs (no repeat), making their wallpapers very versatile in its installation method.

2. WALLPAPER TYPE
Unlike vertical wallpaper installation where you let gravity handle the alignment of the wallpaper, you are working against gravity by installing horizontally.
Non-woven Wallpapers (European in general) are most suited for horizontal installation, as application method is paste-the-wall. It is possible to do this alone.
On the other hand, if you are installing paper wallpapers, you need at least 2 people to assist with the installation, as paste-the-paper types makes the wallpaper very heavy, and you are likely to tear the wallpaper if the strip is long and you are doing it alone.

3. STRAIGHTNESS OF WALL
Unlike vertical wallpapers, it is VERY easy to spot a misalignment when you are installing horizontally. Use a plumb level / laser if needed.
