Wallpaper Symbol
When you purchase European wallpapers, you will notice that there are symbols that are featured on the wallpaper cover. These are instructions and characteristics of the European wallpapers. Let us go through some of the symbols that you will find.
Pattern-Matching
- Free Match – as the name suggests, the wallpaper can be pasted any way you want to, as it means there is no need to match patterns.
- Offset Match – the wallpaper strips are matched when they are several distances apart. The trick to install this wallpaper is to align them on a table to match pattern before hanging them.
- Straight Match – this match is horizontally aligned across the wallpaper strips as the pattern of one strip will be the same as the other strips.
- Reverse Hang – this usually applies to wallpapers that are plain and or slightly embossed. The wallpaper strips have to be pasted in alternate directions. This is to avoid shading the wallpaper.
Pasting Instructions
- Paste on the Paper – paste the glue on the wallpaper strip before sticking the wallpaper onto the wall, so that the adhesive has time to mix with the wallpaper.
- Paste on the Wall – apply the adhesive on the wall before sticking the wallpaper. This method is easier as you can then adjust the wallpaper first before the wallpaper touches the adhesive.
- Pre-Glued Wallpaper – wallpaper strips with adhesive pre-applied on the back of the paper before distribution. You can make the adhesive sticky again by dipping the strips into a bucket of water. Hence, the symbol that indicates the dipping.
Washability
- Washable by Sponge – this means that the wallpaper can only be washed using a damp piece of sponge. The wallpaper cannot be exposed to too much water or else it will be damaged.|
- Washable – this is a slightly more durable wallpaper. However, the wallpaper still can only be used with a wet sponge. If there is too much water in the sponge, the wallpaper might be torn apart.
- Extra Washable – this wallpaper is even stronger than the previous category. However, this wallpaper can only withstand water splashes, which means that the kitchen sink and shower room should be avoided.
- Washable with Scrub – The wallpaper is stronger as it can withstand the pressure of a brush. Nevertheless, it is recommended to use a wet sponge before anything else.
Light Fastness
These symbols describe the wallpaper resistant to sunlight, starting from the left being the least resistant, all the way to the right being the most resistant. Sometimes, the colour might fade off when direct sunlight reach the wallpaper, causing the wallpaper to change its colour.
Method of Removal
- Wet Removal – the wallpaper can only be removed by washing them away with warm soapy water or removal liquid agent. After most of them are removed, the remaining should be removed using a spatula.
- Removable by Stripping – the wallpaper can be removed completely by hand.
- Peelable – the front layer of the wallpaper can be peeled off by hand. The back layer can be removed using a water-soap mixture.
We hope that with the explanation of these symbols, you will be able to install European wallpapers easier. We encourage our customers to install our wallpapers themselves, as it is much cheaper to do it by yourselves and you are able to make this installation a fun experience for your family and children.
